Emma Lloyd

Emma comes from a Northern brass playing family; her Grandfather playing trombone, Dad on Euphonium and Mum on tenor horn. She started out in junior school on the clarinet, before changing to cornet in search of something noisier. After playing with the school's street band and junior brass band for just over a year, she changed again, this time settling on the tenor horn.

She continued to play with the Glossopdale Community College Brass Band and
Concert Band as well as playing with Tintwistle Junior Brass Band and eventually their Senior Band. She left Tintwistle Band in 2005 to concentrate on her A levels, but missed playing, so joined the college jazz band. This confirmed her suspicions that tenor horns just weren't designed for jazz.

Upon starting at the University of Kent in 2007, Emma joined the concert band where she stayed for two years transposing and playing French Horn music. During this time with the music society, she made attempts at setting up her own brass ensemble which unfortunately failed due to lack of committed players.

Determined to go back to brass banding, Emma e-mailed Cantium Brass at the end of March 2009 and joined soon after.

In her own words, "it's awesome!". Although she has only got one more year of
University left, she hopes to stay down south and continue playing with the band.
