As you can see from the Meet the Band Page, we are on the look out for Good Quality Players. We have just lost our Solo Euphonium & 2nd Horn due to work relocation. Dave has moved to Oldham to live with his girlfriend (who he met at the Whit Friday Marches last year) and Helen has moved to Oxford and has just signed with the City of Oxford band. If you feel that you can give commitment and would like to join the only Band in Kent to Qualify for the National Finals 2001, then drop us a line!

Cantium Brass pulled out all the stops at this year's National Brass Band Championships at the "Royal Albert Hall" but unfortunately only came home with 11th place. A disappointing result, but having qualified to play at the finals in the first place was an achievement in itself. The competition, featured only "the top bands" throughout the UK, and is considered by many, the pinnacle of

…to quote somebody else's phrase, certainly looks as though it's coming true for Nigel Weeden from Ashford. Nigel has been playing the Trombone since the age of 12, and was taught by Syd Rose in Deal. Recently coming to play at Cantium Brass after a six year break in playing, Nigel has over the years played in just about every musical group in East Kent, including running a Big Band in the Folkestone area for 10 years. Nigel's daughter Louise 12 has recently joined the percussion section of the band. Louise is a student at Highworth Grammar School for Girls in Ashford, and is also a very keen athlete, being a member of Ashford AC, and is the current Kent high jump champion for her age group, and represents her county.

Monday 12th July saw the arrival of new cornet player Jonathan Williams. Jonathan has just completed his studies at York University where he was a music scholar. He has just moved back to the area to live with his parents whilst seeking work in Music Publishing or Administration. Jonathan is a Trumpet/Flugel Player and has his own Trad Jazz Band which regularly plays at the York Race Course. Jonathan recently guested with Gawthorpe Brass at the Whit Friday Marches……….Hopefully Jonathan will provide a full profile at a later date!
