Alan was born in Sussex, he joined the Royal Marines Band Service at 14½ and served until the age of 30. After leaving the Royal Marines Bands Service, Alan didn't play for almost 25 years!

He started playing again after the Deal Bombing Fund Raising Concert at the Winter Gardens in Margate, thankfully, this stirred up the interest again.

He has played all kinds of sports but especially enjoys cricket. Alan became the Wicket Keeper for Deal Victoria Cricket Club for many years.

Now that he is semi-retired, Alan enjoys restoring and riding classic and vintage motor cycles.
